Spend the weekend in Rock Creek with this father/daughter team: writing with Emilene Ostlind, a native of Sheridan County and painting with Joel Ostlind, extraordinary landscape artist. Freelance writer, Emilene writes stories about communities and natural resources in the West, having published and presented the “Pronghorn Passage”. Joel shows his work in many galleries across the West including the Bradford Brinton Memorial and Museum and resides in Big Horn.

Governor Announces New “Cowboy Tough” Adventure Race

Governor Matt Mead announced today that a new adventure race is coming to Wyoming. The inaugural “Cowboy Tough” Adventure Race Weekend will take place in July 2013. This adventure race will combine mountain biking, trekking, canoeing, rock climbing and several other challenges. Governor Mead said events like this showcase Wyoming and attract tourists who will not only visit but stay longer – and also return again.

Andrew Skurka - National Geographic's Adventurer of the Year !

BUFFALO, WYO — Andrew Skurka, author and National Geographic “Adventurer of the Year,” is coming to Sheridan and Buffalo, May 25-26. Ultra long-distance backpacker and author Andrew Skurka, is leading a hike in the Rock Creek recommended wilderness area on Saturday morning, May 26, and hosting a free workshop on hiking “light” at the Sports Lure in Buffalo on Saturday evening. Skurka is best known for his 4,700-mile 6-month Alaska-Yukon Expedition, his 6,875-mile 7-month Great Western Loop, and his 7,775-mile 11-month Sea-to-Sea Route. He has been named an “Adventurer of the Year” by the National Geographic Society and by Outside, and “Person of the Year” by Backpacker. He is the author of The Ultimate Hiker’s Gear Guide: Tools and Techniques to Hit the Trail, which was released by National Geographic Books in February.
