Part II: Genetically Modified Foods – Are We Eating Genetically Modified Foods? Should We?

no gmo

Do we eat genetically modified (GE) foods? The quick answer is: almost certainly. Remember that the vast majority of US corn and soy come from GE seed, and that these crops are generally used as feed for cattle, hogs and poultry, or otherwise used in the many processed foods found in grocery store aisles. Alfalfa is the fourth largest crop grown in the US and is most commonly used to feed dairy cows and beef cattle. So, if you drink milk, eat beef, enjoy the occasional slice of bacon with your breakfast, order chicken in your Caesar salad or ever indulge in processed foods, cereals and desserts with ingredients like high fructose corn syrup and soy lecithin, THEN GE crops are most certainly a part of your food chain. How’s that make you feel? What’s worse, you can’t be sure when you eat them or in what form, because there is no requirement to label foods with GE ingredients.

The move gave the OK for commercial planting to take place this spring without restrictions. A week later, USDA announced the deregulation [...]

An Early Christmas Present for the Buffalo Community – AAB Set to Close on Beutler’s as New Home for the Cowboy Carousel Nov. 30th

Historic Beutler's Building to House the Cowboy Carousel Center on Artisan Row in Buffalo's Downtown Historic District

The Cowboy Carousel finally has its new home in the center of Buffalo’s historic district — thereby fulfilling the final wish of Emerson Scott who sold the Carousel to the BDA with a promise that a suitable home would be found for it in downtown Buffalo, Wyoming. Now it has that home. The Carousel Committee of the BDA, charged with finding that home and negotiating its purchase, settled on another historic building in Buffalo this past spring as the new home of the beloved Cowboy Carousel. The Carousel Committee’s Chair, Kitty Merrill, has just announced that a final closing date of November 30thwill bring the long process to a close
