July 9 might be “Internet doomsday” for PC and Mac users who haven’t taken steps to make sure their systems are not infected with what’s being called DNSChanger malware. That’s right: Your Internet connection may not work that day because the safety net now in place from the FBI against the malware will be removed then, and if your computer is infected, you won’t be able to get to the Internet.
For over six years (by most accounts) a chain email has been travelling the internet and showing up in in email boxes just about everywhere in the USA in early July. Just in time for Fourth of July celebrations. This email talks about the sacrifices that the 56 signers of the US Declaration of Independence made for our way of life. The question is: how true is this patriotic email? Like so many emails that come from anonymous emailers, we read them with a grain of sand and wonder about the real “truth”. In this case the email letter is about our history, our patriotism and a feel good patriotism that makes us just WANT TO BELIEVE this letter whole heartily. But like anything that seems too good to be true, this letter is a mix of fact and fiction. In this case, however, knowing the truth no less diminishes the wonder and appreciation of our forefathers. Read the letter quoted here and then read some of the research below to gain a greater understanding of what our patriotic predecessors went through and what they sacrificed in the process of helping found this great country.
